Defense Analyst – Military Operations & IHL Expert (Remote)

About the role

We are seeking a remote Defense Analyst with deep expertise in military operations and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) to support policy‑relevant research and AI model evaluation for defense and humanitarian contexts.

Key responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive taxonomies for military‑use and defense operations across diverse conflict scenarios.
• Create dual‑use triage frameworks that separate military and civilian technology applications.
• Define clear boundaries for prohibited assistance under IHL and design conflict‑risk rubrics.
• Build scenario‑based evaluation tools and policy benchmarks for AI model testing in defense and humanitarian settings.
• Produce written and verbal analyses that explain complex warfighting, targeting, and IHL concepts.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of experience in military, defense analysis, or IHL, with a proven senior‑level track record.
• Advanced degree or equivalent operational experience in military science, security studies, international law, or related fields.
• Demonstrated credibility in warfighting, operational planning, targeting law, or humanitarian law application.
• Strong ability to interpret and apply conflict ethics, IHL, and defense policy frameworks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and ethical topics.
• Experience in research, policy analysis, or advisory roles within military, governmental, legal, or think‑tank environments.
